Interest in alternative flours has been growing over the years.
Spelt flour may be an excellent alternative to wheat flour – the one used by most people and recommended in many recipes.
Spellt is a type of grain very similar to wheat, but with some differences and superior characteristics.
This flour has a greater variety of nutrients and vitamins compared to wheat flour.
It has a sweet taste, which can be greatly appreciated when making sweet recipes, reducing the need to use large amounts of sweet elements.
Spelt flour has a lower glycemic index than wheat flour, this means that the sugar levels in your body after consumption are not as high as in the case of wheat flour.
Because of this, and also because of the amount of fiber it has, this flour helps increase the feeling of satiety – something especially important for people concerned with calorie intake and maintaining or decreasing body weight. It is also an important component to regulate intestinal transit.
